"Burn & Turn"

About Scores Players
On the 14th of May 2005 6 people huddled around a table in south London to inaugriate the first ever session of what has become the "Battersea Rise Poker School"

The rules are simple:
  1. Try to get to the venue on time
  2. Each player puts the agreed amount into the pot (usually £10)
  3. Players can "buy in" - paying an extra £10 for another set of chips as long as there are chips available
  4. If we have time we play till one player wins all the chips. The last 2 players in split the pot
  5. All the players contribute to food, snacks & booze
We usually play "Texas Hold'em" -
  • Each player is dealt 2 cards followed by a round of betting;
  • Three cards are placed face up on the table, there's another round of betting;
  • The dealer "Burns and turns", discarding a card and then putting another card face up; as ever followed by betting
  • This is repeated until there are 5 cards on the table
  • Hands consist of 5 cards, made up from any combination of cards in the hands and on the table

The hands are valued in this order:
  1. High card
  2. Pair
  3. 2 pairs
  4. 3 of a kind
  5. Straight
  6. Flush
  7. Full house
  8. 4 of a kind
  9. Straight flush
White chips = $1,
green = $2,
blue = $5
and red = $10.

The betting; a round consists of all the players being dealer once.
The player to the left of the dealer must bet the "small blind" and the player to their left must bet the "big blind".
All players must pay the ante to be included in the hand:
